Hi. My name is Dan Taylor. I’m a Canadian writer, illustrator, musician and carpenter.

I grew up in Orillia, Ontario. Now I live in Toronto and build things out of wood and spend my time writing and drawing and playing music as much as I can without going broke.

Artist's Statement

Although I work in a lot of different mediums, I think of myself as a writer first and foremost: No matter what I'm working on, I believe that at the heart of every drawing, film and song there is a story to be told and everything else is just figuring out how you want to tell it.

Biography

After growing up in a small farming community just north of Orillia, Ontario, I worked as a hired farm hand while studying literature and writing at York and Concordia.

While paying off my student loans working as a baggage handler in Toronto's Union Station, I continued to work on a number of projects in several different mediums.

In 2011 I helped launch the creative collective Lostcaux Cavern in Mirvish Village, operating the combination art gallery/woodworking studio next to Toronto's iconic Honest Ed's department store prior to the historic block's demolition in early 2017.

Lostcaux Cavern, based on the ancient cave paintings in Lascaux, France, was a hive and harbour for primitive art in all its forms.

Now I mostly work as a carpenter, building little wooden things for people and writing and drawing and recording whenever I get the chance. I’m really lucky to have a day job that I really love, working in the best public park in the City.

Thank you for stopping by to check out the stuff I’m working on.  Without you it’s just me sitting here talking to myself.
